Qualitative Research Planning
A strong foundation for a research study is based on careful planning, including defining what, where, when, why, and how. Research planning comes before collecting and analyzing data. You need to identify what you are trying to understand, the reasons why you want to undertake the project, and the resources needed for it.

Every qualitative research project is unique. There are several issues that inform the length of arts-based and arts-informed research, e.g. recruitment of participants, type of data collected. Both types of research in Qual Research Design: Arts-Based/Arts-Informed have similar length of time. Some can be as long as 8 years and other projects could be as short as 3 months.
Each arts-based or arts-informed research is unique due to the nature of qualitative research as a method of inquiry on topics that have little to no research. A researcher may choose to focus on oneself or one participant or have over 25 participants. Some research in Qual Research Design: Arts-Based/Arts-Informed have no participants.
A case study examines a subject using multiple types of data. The accessiblity of information from a participant, timeframe, and the use of secondary data will inform the length of time. There is no general length of time. The most important aspect is to ensure that the research questions inform the rationale for a case study and if time is part of the boundary for collecting data on a case.
A case study is an in-depth exploration of a single person or more than one case. Some case studies do not include participants, but a system, e.g. an event, program. Therefore, data collected may not include participants. Most case studies that include participants have one participant.
A generic design does not directly align with a specific qualitative research design. If your research contains methods from more than two designs. It could be defined as generic. For example, you want to focus on shared experiences (Grounded Theory) of experts in higher education (Delphi) as a participant-observer in an institution for an academic year (ethnography); this will be considered a generical qualitative design.
