Proposal Review

Proposal review is a crucial step in the grant writing process.  In a 2016 study entitled, “Editing for Effective Grant Proposals,” it was found that editors most often give academic authors suggestions, directions, explications, explanations, or have questions related to (in order): 1) content, 2) grammar and mechanics, 3) design, 4) style, and 5) punctuation.  Fresh eyes on your work is necessary to ensure that your proposal is clear and free of both major and minor errors. Our proposal review services position you for a fundable future.

Formatting to Funder Requirements

What is it?  Every grant specifies application requirements for submission. For more competitive funding, more stringent requirements exist. Formatting requirements include page limits, page numbering, font, margin, headings, cover page, etc. When funding notices state the word “requirement,” they actually mean it.  It is not an invitation or suggestion – it is part of a weed-out process.  If you do not submit according to the funder’s guidelines, your proposal will not even make it to the review committee. It is, therefore, imperative that every font type and size, heading notation, appendices order, and pagination follow the specifically stated guideline.

It is very easy to miss these finer details when you are focusing on getting the bigger picture painted. Our consultants can very quickly find identify the issues to be addressed in your proposal, which will increase your chances of making it to the table and being funded.

FAQ About Formatting to Funder Requirements

One way is that you must take an honest look at your track record of grant funding. If you have not received any funding before, start with small grant funds, demonstrate that you can be accountable and deliver on the small funds. Only then, should you try for medium-range funding.

With any email or any PO, you will want to assume at least a week for them to respond. After this time, you will want to resend your original email with a note about following up and perhaps ask if there’s a better way to connect.

When you know you will be pursuing a specific funding mechanism, it is good to craft your concept paper.

Proposal review can take up to a week, depending on the depth of review requested. The deeper the review, the more the reviewer must understand the funder, the requirements, and the content field.

Oftentimes, the funder has a separate document that outlines proposal guidelines. Do not assume there are no guidelines if none are given.

What Our Clients Say About Us

I was referred to Elite Research from a friend, who is a Doctoral student from another university. He received excellent assistance with compilation of his statistics and assistance with formatting the stats. I signed up for the same services and also APA formatting and proofing. Elite gave me a written estimate up front for various services, so I could chose what fit my needs and budget. The turnaround time was incredibly fast! My classmates were extremely impressed by the professional quality of my paper and have signed up also.
