QUALITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGN

After you have defined your research questions, aims, or goals, the next step is to identify your research design. Your research questions or goals inform the type of research design that you will use. There are some research designs that are informed by a particular field of study and expanded to other settings and disciplines. Other research designs are informed by theory.

Delphi Method

What is it? The Delphi method is a repetitive process of gaining general agreement among a group of experts on an issue. The information from each expert is not disclosed to other participants, but all responses are shared with the researcher. This type of method is used to gain a reliable consensus on a topic through several interviews and/or questionnaires. The participant experts have the option to make changes to their opinions with each iteration of data collection.

There are some instances when you need to know about the experiences of experts or professionals in your field. The information that you gather from them through the Delphi method could lead to developing programs, improved services, or a better understanding of a problem. In some instances, data can be converged from diverse expertise on a specific issue.

To collect and analyze data through the Delphi method requires careful planning of panel size, number, and participants, as well as thoughtful selection of analysis techniques that align with the study’s aim. Our consultants can support you in planning your study so that your panel of experts and analysis techniques are appropriately selected to help you meet your research objectives.
