Document Formatting
Document formatting is important for readability and submission acceptance. After reviewing your draft and provided guidelines, editors will determine the level of formatting needed for your project.
Please note that journal, publication, and institutional guidelines often conflict with style guidelines and that journal, publication, and institutional guidelines take precedence. Before beginning document formatting, Elite Research editors must receive any guidelines and/or templates.
In-Depth Formatting
What is it? Tables need close attention and need appropriate changes to university, corporate, journal, publication, institutional, and/or style guide, no existing preliminary/end matter pages that need to be inserted, spacing is off in many places, tabs are not used properly, bulleted lists need attention, Table of Contents linking, etc.
Style guides supported include, but not limited to, all editions of APA, AMA, MLA, ASA, ACS, Chicago, and Turabian.
How can we help you?
Editors compare a final document version and the provided guidelines to correct all formatting errors and inconsistencies created during editing before final printing, submission, or binding occur.
We offer the following formatting help:
- Preliminary Pages: Confirm correct formatting, spacing, order, and contents of preliminary pages (e.g., title page, abstract, acknowledgements page, dedication, Table of Contents, List of Tables, List of Figures, etc.)
- Document Body: Correct paragraph indentation, line spacing, widows/ orphans, landscaped pages, page numbers on landscaped pages and around section breaks, etc.
- References: Does not include style guide formatting of each reference but includes the formatting of the reference section (e.g., correct reference heading, hanging indent, and spacing between lines).
- Appendices: Confirm that all appendices are mentioned in text in the correct order and with the correct content. Within appendices, adding manual page breaks to correct spacing, correct other spacing issues, ensure images within print boundaries, format appendix heading/title page according to guidelines, etc.
- Tables: Confirm that all tables are mentioned in text and in the correct order, and review tables for titles, numbering, in-text mentions, internal lines and spacing, notes, etc.
- Figures: Confirm that all figures are mentioned in text in the correct order, and review figures for titles, numbering, in-text mentions, captions, legibility/color, etc.
- Final Formatting: Formatting a finalized document that is almost ready for submission but needs the final check, such as page number updates, widow/orphan control, Table of Contents update, etc.
